These Children Haven’t Always Had Such Bright Smiles

They come from the impoverished neighborhood shown below, where they live in makeshift shacks, collect trash, and beg on the streets to survive. None had ever stepped foot in a classroom — until now.

Brindle Bridge settlement, Dehradun

They attend a drop-in center where they receive nutritious meals, remedial education, and other services that donors like you make possible. They play and learn in a safe space — where they can be children and leave behind a world of crushing poverty.

And there are hundreds of children in Dehradun who don’t have this opportunity, but your donation today can change that.

Through our Hope Builder campaign, we’re raising $35,000 to fund five drop-in centers in Dehradun, India. These are safe and supportive spaces where 40 to 50 children in each center, ages 7 through 14, receive:

  • Remedial education to prepare them for public schooling
  • Nutritious daily meals
  • Quarterly health screenings and counseling
  • Social activities and playtime in a safe environment
  • A real chance to build a better life

And now, through August 15, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar — doubling your impact.

Just $7,000 supports a drop-in center for an entire year — that’s about $175 per child. We've already opened two centers serving over 80 marginalized children in Dehradun. With your help, we’ll open three more and secure funding for all five through 2026.

Help a child take the first step toward a future full of hope. Your gift will help a child break the cycle of poverty that has trapped their family for generations.

"I Thought I'd Never Walk Again"

In the first photo, Sonam is recovering after treatment for rheumatic heart disease, which caused her face to swell. Her health gradually improved after enrolling at the drop-in center – now she’s happy, healthy, and even jumping rope!

“Now I go to school and dream of becoming a teacher.”

Sonam, a young girl in Dehradun, was once too sick to walk. Living in poverty with untreated rheumatic heart disease, her future looked bleak—until she found support at one of our new drop-in centers.

There, she received medical care, nourishing meals, and daily encouragement.

“The didis (an endearing term meaning elder sister) from the center came to see me every day. They made me feel I was not alone. I am still taking medicine, but now I am strong. I don’t feel scared anymore.”

Today, Sonam is walking, learning, and thriving. She—and dozens of children like her—are discovering what’s possible when someone believes in them and offers a hand up.

Double Your Gift — Double the Hope

A Bridal Bridge girl receiving counseling.

Thanks to a generous SevaChild donor, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar—up to $17,500—if you give by August 15.

  • A $50 gift becomes $100
  • A $87.50 donation becomes $175 and gives one more child a path out of poverty

Our goal is to raise $35,000. That's enough to fund five drop-in centers through 2026 and give over 200 children the education and services they need to break the cycle of poverty for good.

We also invite you to become a monthly Hope Builder to help sustain these centers in the long-term and transform more young lives like Sonam’s.

There is truly no greater gift you can give these children than this gift of hope, health, and opportunity.

"Having served in India, I've seen how desperate and impoverished these families who live on the streets of Indian cities can be. It's heartbreaking. But this campaign is all about building hope and breaking that cycle of poverty that has trapped families for generations.

"I invite you to become a builder of hope."
